Meet Sydney.

Sydney Johnston is an entrepreneur and 200-hour Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher from Texas with a personal practice spanning many forms of yoga, pranayama, and meditation.  She found yoga over three years ago amidst family and medical challenges, and has since dedicated herself to sharing this ancient practice with students of her own.  Sydney teaches primarily Power and Vinyasa yoga, and is a skilled instructor of Yin, Restorative, Hatha, and Ashtanga-inspired practices.  She loves to infuse her classes with chanting, Sanskrit vocabulary, and Yogic philosophy, and offers meditation and prenatal accommodations and modifications.  Sydney also teaches specialty yoga to meet the unique goals and needs of her students, including strengthening, flexibility, balance, Chakra-based, Ayurvedic-inspired, and injury management practices.  She has direct experience in accommodating foot and ankle injuries after years of maintaining her self-practice throughout a series of reconstructive foot surgeries, and sequences entire classes specifically to meet the needs of students with limited mobility.

Sydney teaches diverse lineages of yoga while emphasizing alignment, prioritizing the breath, and always respecting each student’s unique anatomy in order to avoid injury, heal ailments, and help students grow through introspection and personal transformation.

The Pose is Not the Goal

Social media has precipitated a fixation on the aesthetics of yoga poses.  However, Sydney knows that how a pose looks is not an indicator of whether it is being done correctly – every person’s unique anatomy means the pose will look different in their specific body!

Sydney believes that a pose is done correctly when:

  • Alignment is emphasized;
  • The pose is modified so each student can take their deepest, fullest breath;
  • The teacher meets the student where they are, instead of forcing the student to meet the pose.

An advanced yogi is the person who prioritizes the breath over the appearance of the pose.  Ready to become advanced with Sydney’s classes?

Direct Experience

In order to teach authentically, the teacher must be a practitioner of what he or she shares with students.  Sydney uses the power of direct experience to guide her classes, ensuring she is teaching authentically, sharing knowledge attained through practice, and serving her students to the greatest extent possible.

Sydney’s unique background allows her to teach from direct experience.  She promises that:

  • She is only teaching what she authentically practices;
  • She will not teach poses or styles of yoga she does not practice;
  • She will refer students seeking a different type of training than what she offers to the appropriate instructor.
